Description

The webinar will provide an overview of the Opportunity Zone (OZ) program including what it’s meant to do for the underserved communities in the U.S. and the associated tax benefits for investors. The presenter will discuss the types of capital gains events and what eligible gains qualify to be invested into Opportunity Zone Funds, as well as the significant tax benefits the program offers. This topic is more relevant than ever as the new administration has recently appointed Scott Turner, a major proponent of OZs, to lead HUD, and noted that Opportunity Zones are “probably the number one economic development project.” Currently, there is a lot of discussion regarding the potential extension and expansion of the program and what Opportunity Zone 2.0 may mean. The program will cover the summary of the recent Novogradac OZ Working Group’s letter to the new administration.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand the Opportunity Zones program and the impact it has had since its inception. 2. Learn about the tax benefits associated with OZs (often called “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunities for investors) and how financial advisors can guide their clients to diversify their portfolios while deferring and potentially eliminating their capital gains tax liability. 3. Compare OZs to 1031s and other tax-advantaged solutions that are currently available. 4. Understand what the potential extension and expansion of the OZ program would mean for investors.
