Description

Parent of a child with special needs face substantial challenges providing for the long term needs of the child. The need for care may well continue for the lifetime of the child, and the additional expenses of this care may well continue after their death. Careful planning with expert advisors is often needed to meet the long term needs of the family. Financial advisors and insurance professionals need a greater understanding of Special Needs Planning to appropriately advise clients of their options. A well advised client is more likely to make suitable choices for their individual circumstances.

Learning Objectives

This course provides education and training on a subject near and dear to many families – Special Needs Planning. Course content includes an overview of the long term challenges of providing for a child with special needs, a review of the available government programs and resources, and suggestions on how to avoid three costly mistakes in special needs planning. This content is followed by a detailed review of the Special Needs Trust, including the basic types, design considerations and tax consequences. A case study is included, and a resource list will be provided.This course is appropriate and suggested for producers and licensed agency staff to gain a more thorough understanding of special needs planning, and how life insurance products can help meet client objectives.
