Description
This course provides a very broad view of financial planning and the products that are utilized to build a financial plan. Students who complete the course will have a working knowledge of financial products ranging from bank deposits to limited partnerships and futures contracts. In addition, the course provides an overview of a variety of qualified and other retirement plans and an understanding of the financial planning process.

Gain an understanding of financial products and financial planning;
Explain the important provisions within the U.S. tax code and its effects on financial planning;
Understand the importance of managing risk and reward relationships in financial planning;
Discuss different financial institutions and their deposit insurance provisions;
Explain how to utilize various forms of insurance to manage different risks;
Describe the important provisions and benefits of annuity contracts;
Discuss the different types of securities and their uses in financial planning;
Explain pooled investment products and their uses in financial planning;
Understand the provisions within major qualified plans and nonqualified plans;
Gain a basic understanding of direct participation programs; and
Describe how to choose an investment.
