Barry Gersten
Barry S. Gersten joined CFP Board as Head Technology Officer in June 2025. As Head Technology Officer, he leads the strategic planning, execution and management of CFP Board’s information technology and digital initiatives. He plays a critical role in shaping the technology vision of the organization and aligns information technology (IT) capabilities with CFP Board’s mission, strategic objectives and operational needs. He also provides leadership in evaluating the utility of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
Barry joins CFP Board from his independent consulting practice. During his time as a consultant, he helped lead IT strategy and operations at various organizations, including CFP Board, conducting a comprehensive assessment of IT systems, infrastructure and vendor services across digital platforms. Prior to this, Barry served as the Chief Technology Officer at the American Nurses Association, where he led digital transformation initiatives and spearheaded cybersecurity.
Previously, Barry has served as Vice President of Information Technology at The Aspen Institute and Chief Information Officer for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department. Throughout his career, he has optimized IT infrastructure, improved operational efficiency and strengthened cybersecurity.
Barry holds a master’s degree in business administration from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's degree in information systems management from the University of Maryland.
