Erin Koeppel, JD
Erin Koeppel is CFP Board’s Managing Director, Government Relations and Public Policy Counsel, overseeing CFP Board’s public policy development and advocacy execution. Erin leads legislative, regulatory, and executive branch advocacy efforts for CFP Board’s public policy priorities to relevant government bodies including Members of Congress and their staff, federal government agencies, and state legislators and government bodies.
Prior to this role, Erin was CFP Board’s Deputy General Counsel – Adjudication, serving as lead counsel to the Disciplinary and Ethics Commission (DEC), which reviews and takes appropriate action with respect to alleged violations of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct (Code and Standards). Erin oversaw critical projects such as implementing CFP Board’s new Procedural Rules, designed to make the adjudication process more efficient, and managing the adjudication of increased enforcement actions. In her role, Erin also worked with CFP Board’s Standards Resource Commission, developing comprehensive guidance resources that interpret and apply the Code and Standards.
In leading CFP Board’s public policy positions, Erin draws upon her background in and understanding of the financial services industry. Before joining CFP Board, she was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of global law firm K&L Gates LLP, where she represented financial services firms and individuals in navigating complex regulatory and enforcement matters.
Erin earned her Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School, where she was a Note Editor of Cornell’s Journal of Law and Public Policy, and her Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology from Ohio Wesleyan University, where she graduated magna cum laude.
