John M. Loper, CFP®, MBA
John is CFP Board’s Managing Director of Professional Practice, working to strengthen CFP Board’s education, examination, experience and stakeholder programs.
John joined CFP Board in 2014 as Director of Corporate Relations where he helped to grow the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification’s presence in the financial services marketplace, serving as a contact for key executives at financial services firms.
In 2017, he was promoted to the newly created role of Managing Director of Professional Practice, where he leads and directs the development of the CFP® Certification Examination and the certification’s educational standards for enhancing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of current and potential CFP® professionals.
Prior to his appointment at CFP Board, John was Vice President and Regional Planning Consultant at Fidelity Investments, where he was responsible for increasing the usage and delivery of Fidelity’s financial planning tools. John was also a Director at TIAA-CREF Wealth Management Group and previously held leadership positions at Ameriprise Financial for more than ten years. He also served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.
John has been a CFP® professional since 2001. He holds an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston, and Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Miami.
