CFP Board Weighs Changes to How It Considers Expunged Convictions

CFP Board is seeking public comment on proposed changes to its Fitness Standards, Procedural Rules, and Sanction Guidelines that would establish a more formal approach for evaluating applicants with expunged criminal convictions. CFP Board’s General Counsel Leo Rydzewski noted that expungement laws vary significantly from state to state and that, in the absence of specific standards, CFP Board's Disciplinary and Ethics Commission currently has discretion to determine when an expungement should be considered a mitigating factor.
