CFP Board Submits Statement to Senate HELP Committee on the Future of Retirement

November 20, 2025

Ahead of a Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee hearing on The Future of Retirement, which was scheduled for November 20, 2025 but has now been postponed, CFP Board submitted a letter for the record urging lawmakers to ensure all workers have access to a retirement plan and to enact tax incentives for everyday Americans to receive ethical and competent financial advice to make informed decisions about their financial futures.

“With only half of private-sector workers able to access an employer retirement plan, Congress must take bold but practical steps to close this gap,” said Erin Koeppel, CFP Board’s Managing Director of Government Relations and Public Policy Counsel. “Financial planning meaningfully improves Americans’ retirement readiness, and policymakers should ensure every worker has both access to a plan and the support needed to make informed decisions.”

CFP Board also voiced strong support for two bipartisan measures introduced by Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), the Helping Young Americans Save for Retirement Act and the Auto Reenroll Act. These pieces of legislation would increase participation and bolster financial security and wellness in retirement, providing a brighter future for all Americans.
