CFP Board Applauds Congressional Resolution Recognizing
National Financial Planning Month
Today, Representatives Young Kim (R-CA) and Joyce Beatty (D-OH) introduced a congressional resolution retroactively designating October as "National Financial Planning Month." The resolution highlights the positive impact CFP Board and CFP® professionals have in helping Americans achieve their life goals and build financial security.
"We're grateful for the partnership of the co-chairs of the House Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus, Representatives Kim and Beatty, for their support in advancing awareness of the positive impact of financial planning for families nationwide,” said Erin Koeppel, JD, CFP Board Managing Director, Government Relations and Public Policy Counsel. “This resolution underscores the important work CFP® professionals do every day to help people make informed financial choices and strengthen their financial well-being.”
"Too many families are stretched thin trying to afford everyday necessities, set aside emergency savings, and plan for retirement," said Rep. Young Kim. “Financial planning helps Americans invest in their future and prepare for the unexpected. As Co-Chair of the Financial Literacy & Wealth Creation Caucus, I’m proud to partner with Rep. Beatty to highlight the need for financial education and ensure more Americans have the tools they need to build long-term financial security.”
"Regardless of household income, financial planning is beneficial at every stage of life, particularly when rising prices are making it harder for families to reach their goals," said Congresswoman Beatty. "As Co-Chair of the Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus, I am committed to expanding access to trusted financial guidance for hardworking Americans. As families prepare for holiday spending and look ahead to a new year, this month is a timely reminder of the importance of financial planning in helping to build stability, confidence, and long-term economic well-being."
The resolution urges Americans to recognize “National Financial Planning Month” through various outreach and awareness initiatives, including those hosted by CFP Board and CFP® professionals, such as:
- Public seminars or workshops on budgeting, saving, use of credit, investing and retirement planning to increase access to financial planning services.
- Financial education courses and instruction in schools and colleges to broadly improve the financial literacy of all ages.
- Support for pro bono financial planning services, offering no-cost financial guidance to Americans in underserved communities or in times of need.
