CFP Board Statement for the Record at July 2025 Hearing Before the Senate HELP Committee

July 21, 2025

Recently, Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rand Paul (R-KY) unveiled a legislative package that includes four major bills aimed at changing workplace benefits for independent workers, including retirement plans. Ranking Member Bernie Sanders (I-VT) also introduced a new bill aimed at guaranteeing pensions or solid retirement plans for every worker in America. The road to financial wellness, however, does not simply end with access to a retirement plan. That is why CFP Board submitted a letter to the Senate HELP Committee in connection with its July 17, 2025, hearing on the matter. In the letter, we urge the Committee to restore and expand tax incentives for financial advice and financial planning to ensure that hardworking Americans can make informed decisions about their financial futures.
