CFP Board Public Policy Team Comments on Bills Being Considered by House Financial Services Committee

On May 19, 2025, CFP Board submitted a letter to House Financial Services Committee Chair French Hill and Ranking Member Maxine Waters ahead of the Committee’s May 20–21, 2025, markup. In the letter, CFP Board expressed support for several bills aimed at protecting seniors and small businesses, including the Senior Security Act of 2025 (HR 1469) and the Small Entity Update Act of 2025 (HR 3382). We also raised concerns about proposals that could reduce material disclosures to investors, such as the Access to Small Business Investor Capital Act (HR 2225) and HR 3301. Additionally, CFP Board urged Congress to modernize the definition of accredited investor in a way that balances increased market access with appropriate investor protections.
