Senior DOL Official Defends Fiduciary Rule; Says Appeals Could Take Years

Ali Khawar, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for the EBSA, defended the Department of Labor’s Retirement Security Rule at CFP Board’s 2024 Connections Conference in Washington, D.C. Joining him was Kamila Elliott, CEO of Collective Wealth Partners and former CFP Board Chair, who noted that “the main regulatory gap we have right now is one-time advice,” which exposes investors to poor and conflicted guidance in retirement.
