CFP Board Promotes John M. Loper, CFP® to Managing Director of Professional Practice
Position is focused on supporting and improving education, examination, experience and stakeholder programs
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) announced today that it has named John M. Loper, CFP® to Managing Director of Professional Practice, a newly created role in which he will lead multiple programs vital to advancing CFP® certification among prospective and existing CFP® professionals.
In his new role, Loper will lead and direct the development of the CFP® Certification Examination and the certification’s educational standards for enhancing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of current and potential CFP® professionals. He will report to Elizabeth Maza Stewart, Esq., the newly appointed Chief Operating Officer of CFP Board.

Keller, CAE. “With his successful experience as a practicing CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and as a passionate advocate of the CFP® certification, John is well suited to lead CFP Board-Registered Programs, continuing education, examinations, experience and stakeholder services programs to new heights.”
Loper joined CFP Board in 2014 as Director of Corporate Relations where he strengthened the organization’s presence in the financial services marketplace, serving as a contact for key executives at financial services firms. Prior to his appointment at CFP Board, Loper was Vice President and Regional Planning Consultant at Fidelity Investments, where he had responsibility for increasing the usage and delivery of Fidelity’s financial planning tools. Loper was also a Director at TIAA-CREF Wealth Management Group and previously held leadership positions at Ameriprise Financial for more than ten years. Loper also served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.
Loper holds an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston, and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Miami. He received the CFP® certification in 2001.
