Description
Social insurance is probably best defined as governmental administration of survivors, retirement, and
health insurance benefits. Social Security is an example of this concept, is also known as Old Age,
Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI). It was enacted by Congress in 1935 as a response to the
Great Depression to provide retirement benefits to those who were unable to work and as a means to
supplement retirement income.
This course will focus mainly on the healthcare benefits provided by social insurance: Medicare. Even
though insurance producers to not sell Medicare, they may sell Medicare supplements; therefore, they
must have a thorough understanding of the Medicare system and the need for supplemental coverage
in order to properly serve consumers.
This webinar course covers the basics of Medicare and Medicare supplements to better educate and
inform insurance agents and financial advisors to better serve their clients.
