About the Scholarship

alt text

Daniel B. Moisand, CFP® is a principal and financial advisor at Moisand, Fitzgerald, Tamayo in Melbourne, Fla., and has more than three decades of financial planning and investment experience.

During his career, he has made considerable contributions to CFP Board’s work. For example, from 1999-2001, he served on CFP Board’s Board of Practice Standards, helping to draft and promulgate the first Financial Planning Practice Standards for CFP® professionals. In 2008, Dan served as Chair of CFP Board’s Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, reviewing and taking appropriate action with respect to alleged violations of the ethical and practice standards for CFP® professionals.

He is a past national president of the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) and served as a trustee of the Foundation for Financial Planning from 2014-2019. On behalf of FPA, he has led delegations of financial planners to Russia, China, India and Australia. Dan has been featured as one of America’s top financial planners by at least 10 financial planning publications.

Dan served as the 2023 Chair of CFP Board's Board of Directors. When his term expired on December 31, 2023, CFP Board raised funds to create a scholarship in his name that commemorates his contributions to CFP Board and the financial planning profession: The Dan Moisand, CFP® Scholarship.

“It is critical to the future of financial planning that we attract more women to this rewarding profession,” said Dan Moisand, CFP®. “This scholarship reflects my deep commitment to reducing barriers and supporting women in their pursuit of CFP® certification.”

The Dan Moisand, CFP® Scholarship is intentionally designed to encourage candidates who have previously sat for the CFP® exam and did not pass. The scholarship recognizes resilience and supports candidates who remain committed to continuing their path toward becoming a CFP® professional.

The scholarship awards $1,000 per candidate seeking to re-sit for the CFP® exam and enroll in a CFP® exam review prep course. The award consists of $625 per awardee toward the early-bird rate of $825 for the CFP® exam. The scholarship awardee will assume financial responsibility for $200 of the CFP® exam fee during Early Bird registration. The awardee will also be reimbursed for costs incurred up to $375 toward an exam review prep course or study materials of their choosing (e.g., financial calculator, textbooks, flashcards, tutoring).

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must not be registered to take the July 2026 CFP® exam prior to the award being given, must meet the eligibility criteria below and successfully complete this application form. Only register for the exam after being notified of the award, or you will forfeit the scholarship. If CFP Board discovers information that would subject the scholarship applicant to an investigation if the scholarship applicant were an applicant for CFP® certification, then CFP Board will deny the scholarship application. The fact that an individual receives a scholarship does not guarantee that the individual will satisfy CFP Board’s Fitness Standards when the individual later applies for CFP® certification.
