Access Period of 130 Days
The access period begins once you have registered for the CFP® exam. You can access and return to the practice exam as often as you like during the access period. Once you've completed the practice exam and requested your score, your access will be limited to a read-only mode to review questions, answer keys, and rationales.

The practice exam includes 170 unique, authentic CFP® exam questions.
Most of the questions have appeared in previous CFP® exams, and are now retired for inclusion in the practice exam. Although these actual questions will not appear on any future CFP® exam, they are typical of the types of questions asked and represent the full range of topic areas covered on the current CFP® exam.
The practice exam is accessible online once you register for the CFP® exam and opt-in to receiving your complimentary CFP Board Practice Exam. You will need to go to your CFP Board Account Dashboard and select “Access Your Practice Exam” under the Exam section. The practice exam works best with Internet Explorer.
The 170-question practice exam (a $249 value) is complimentary with your CFP® exam registration. If you choose not to add the practice exam to your account at the time of the exam registration you can later purchase it for $249.
Once you access a practice exam, there are instructions available as well as a tutorial and a sample question to try before you start the actual practice exam.
You will be able to access your practice exam for up to 130 days from the date the practice exam is added to your account. You can access and return to the practice exam as often as you like during the access period. Once you have completed the practice exam and requested your score, your access will be limited to a read-only mode. This will allow you to continue to review questions, answers, and rationales, but you will no longer be able to change your answers or have the practice exam re-scored.
No. Although you can start and stop while you’re taking a practice exam, once you have completed the exam and submitted it for scoring by clicking “End”, you will not be able to take the exam again. However, you will have the ability to log back into the practice exam and view the questions and answers in read-only mode for the duration of the 130-day access period.
No. The practice exam contains the same 170 questions each time it is added to your account.
Yes. There is an option for you to select so that you may see the correct answers with explanations once you have marked your answers.
Yes. While taking the practice exam, you can go back to earlier questions that you have answered. There is also a solutions button located on the bottom right of the screen for each exam question. You will be able to see the solutions for each question as you complete the exam, if desired.
Yes. There is a clock in the upper right hand corner of the screen while you are taking the exam. The clock will stop if you pause or leave the exam for any reason. Once you start your exam again, the clock will restart at the point where you left off.
