Changes to CFP Board CE Policies, Effective February 1, 2017

On November 1, 2016, CFP Board announced changes to the following Continuing Education (CE) policies that will become effective February 1, 2017:

  1. CE Credit for Designations & Licenses
  2. Changes to Teaching CE Standards
  3. Changes to Authorship CE Standards
  4. CE Credit for Authors/Instructors of CFP Board-Approved Ethics CE Programs
  5. Increase in Reporting Fee for Non-Registered CE Programs
  6. Online Self-Reporting of Non-Registered CE Programs

To ensure that CFP® professionals remain well-versed in comprehensive financial planning once they have attained CFP® certification, they are required to complete 30 credit hours of continuing education (CE) accepted by CFP Board every two years, including 2 hours of CFP Board-approved Ethics CE.

Check Your CE Status

CFP® professionals can access up-to-date information regarding CE credit hours that have been reported to their account:

  1. Log into your CFP Board account at
  2. Select 'My CFP® Certification' in the left-side navigation.
  3. Select 'View/Report CE' under the heading 'Continuing Education (CE) Summary.'
