How to Reinstate Your CFP® Certification
If your CFP® certification has gone into relinquishment, follow these five steps to get reinstated:
- Submit the Intent to Reinstate form.
- Pay a non-refundable $100 reinstatement fee.
- Report any outstanding CE.
- Complete the renewal application and pay the renewal fee.
- Pass the background check.
Once we receive your completed Intent to Reinstate form, we will email you within approximately 3-5 business days to provide you with details regarding your specific reinstatement steps.
If you have been in relinquishment for five years or more, you will be required to pass the current CFP® exam as a condition of reinstatement. You will need to contact email@example.com to schedule the exam. Once you receive the official results that you have passed the exam, you may submit the Intent to Reinstate form to apply for reinstatement.
You must complete reinstatement requirements within 90 days of when your Intent to Reinstate form is approved. If you miss the 90-day deadline, you will be required to re-apply for reinstatement, which includes paying the non-refundable $100 reinstatement fee.
After you have completed your reinstatement requirements, a background check is run. We will then provide you with written confirmation of your reinstatement, and issue a current CFP Board ID card. Once the reinstatement is complete, you can start using the CFP® marks again.
In the event that your reinstatement is denied as a result of any disciplinary action taken by our Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, you may petition to the Appeals Committee, pursuant to CFP Board's Disciplinary Rules and Procedures.
Continuing Education Requirements for Reinstatement
