CFP Board Center for Financial Planning Announces Call for Papers and First-Ever Global Financial Planning Research Colloquium

March 22, 2016

The CFP Board Center for Financial Planning today announced a Call for Papers that will be presented at the first-ever global Academic Research Colloquium for Financial Planning and Related Disciplines to take place in Washington, D.C. on February 7-9, 2017.

Along with the Canadian-based Financial Planning Standards Council and the international association, Financial Planning Standards Board, the Center will be hosting a global meeting of researchers, graduate students and leaders of financial planning practice. The colloquium is designed to be a forum to gather and share while providing a showcase for rigorous, relevant research within financial planning, as well as disciplines that directly or indirectly relate to the financial planning body of knowledge or financial planning practice.

“We are excited to serve as hosts – along with our partner organizations – of this landmark occasion,” said Marilyn Mohrman-Gillis, Executive Director of the Center for Financial Planning. “The financial planning profession will benefit from the in-depth academic research, insights and opinions from leading academicians around the world.”

The deadline for submitting an expression of interest to offer a paper or poster is April 30, 2016. The colloquium will be held at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel on February 7-9, 2017. A fact sheet with information about the colloquium, how to submit an expression of interest, additional deadlines and other details can be found here.

The Center’s Academic Research Colloquium for Financial Planning and Related Disciplines will feature paper presentations; invited speakers; interviews for open financial planning faculty positions; and a focus on poster/concurrent sessions for doctoral students within financial planning programs as well as related research areas. As the Lead Founding Sponsor of the Center, TD Ameritrade Institutional is supporting the Colloquium and other important Center initiatives.

“We are striving to create impact for research in financial planning. Our vision for the colloquium is to create a platform for the presentation and discussion of theoretical and applied research from a broad range of disciplines and sub-disciplines that connect to financial planning practice,” said Charles Chaffin, Ed.D. CFP Board’s Director of Academic Home, Center for Financial Planning. “I encourage my colleagues from a wide range of research areas to join us in contributing to the body of knowledge of this growing academic discipline.”
