This panel will include heads of training from several major firms, and will discuss the challenges and opportunities with new advisor training.  New training models and how CFP® certification plays a role in training programs will also be discussed.

An Analyst from Corporate Insight will discuss the emerging trend of "Robo"-Advisors, and what this trend will mean for firms and advisors.  

Topics covered include outlining the different business models, reviewing how they compare to established firms, and highlighting where human advisors still trump software.  The presentation will conclude with a discussion of the impact these firms will have and what financial advice will look like in the future.

As retirement planning is now at the forefront of mind for clients, firms and advisors, a speaker from the nationally recognized Center for Retirement Research at Boston College will address how the retirement landscape is changing and how advisors can help their clients close any gaps in their retirement plans.

Drawing on a wealth of research, the discussion will zero in on the key areas that clients and advisors should focus on to have the biggest impact.  The talk will also address how and why the retirement of the middle class is at risk, and what steps individuals and policymakers can take to help today's workers achieve retirement security.  The presentation will also summarize key recommendations from the speaker's upcoming co-authored book - ​Falling Short: The Coming Retirement Crisis and What to Do About It​ - which will be published in November 2014.

Moderated by CFP Board's Director of Academic Programs and Initiatives, Dr. Charles Chaffin, this panel will host Registered Program heads from two universities to discuss the opportunity for firms to source new talent from the growing pool of graduating students at 300+ financial planning undergraduate and graduate degree programs. 

Discussion topics will include examples of best practices between firms and Registered Programs, and ways firms can engage with Programs to best ensure a pipeline of talent to fill the growing need for financial planners.

Questions will cover how technology is changing the delivery of advice, what clients are seeking today in a financial plan, and how firms are shaping the client experience around financial planning.

CFP Board has seen impressive growth in the number of CFP® professionals in recent years.  However, the percentage who are women has remained flat at 23 percent for at least a decade.

This session will share research conducted by CFP Board to explore the root causes of why more women aren't choosing financial planning as a career and earning the CFP® certification, as well as recommendations for increasing the number of women in the profession.  The comprehensive research and recommendations are presented in a white paper, ​Making More Room for Women in the Financial Planning Profession​, which will be available to session attendees.
