Revamped Online CE Sponsor Portal Successfully Deployed

Thank you for helping make the deployment of the revamped online CE Sponsor Portal a success. No than 2,000 program submissions were entered into the new system between July 20 and August 31. The low volume of questions we received about the new functionality indicates that the new portal is user-friendly.

What is CFP Board doing with all of the new data we’re collecting? Join us during the September 20 webinar to learn how we are already putting the new data to use.

For those of you who haven’t yet submitted a program through the revamped portal, here are some highlights of what you’ll find:

  • Manage Program section
    • View programs entered but not yet submitted and payment due date
    • Follow the review process
      • NMI? Add requested documents online in your program submission
    • View all active programs; download your active program list
  • Enhanced program submission process
    • Help feature guides you through the required fields
    • Add the program URL for direct access to program information and/or registration
    • Select the Principal Knowledge Topic domain
    • Provide the program category: seminar, webinar, eLearning, conference program
    • Auto calculation of credit hours for live and self-study programs
    • Identify programs for auto renewal next year
    • An internal budget code field to help you track your expenses
    • Add related documents to your program submission
    • Conference feature
      • Add conference title, dates, location
      • Easily add programs associated with the conference
  • Simplified renewal process
    • Sponsorship and program renewals completed in minutes
    • Add programs for next year beginning in late October

    • Workshop/Seminar
    • Webinar
    • Conference Session
    • Article Review
    • Recorded Webinar
    • eLearning (online)
    • eLearning (online) with offline independent learning option
    • Short Course (0.50 CE hours)

    • URL to program description and registration
    • Conference detail for associated programs to include conference title, start and end dates and location

2018 CE Sponsorship & Program Renewal Process

We will soon be sharing instructions for the 2018 renewal process for CE sponsorship and CE program registration. The revamp of the online CE Sponsor portal streamlined the process for annual sponsorship and program renewals. While the details are still being finalized, please mark your calendars with these dates:

As a reminder, CFP Board will be eliminating the Ethics CE Sponsor category in 2018, moving to a single CE Sponsorship model. Sponsor fees will remain at the current rate of $500/$250. An active CE sponsorship will be required for an organization to offer a CFP Board Ethics CE program.

CFP Board Ethics CE Program Update

As we shared this summer, CFP Board has adopted a new model for the delivery of Ethics CE programs. Our Ethics Work Group is developing the core content and supporting material for the Ethics CE program. The new program content and materials will be built on the revised Standards of Professional Conduct that is currently in development.

CFP Board released the proposed revised Standards in June for a 60-day public comment period that ended on August 21, 2017. CFP Board is currently reviewing the feedback, and our Commission on Standards will provide recommendations to the Board of Directors on how to proceed with the proposed revisions. The Board will decide whether to seek another round of comments or to issue the final revised Standards. When the final revised Standards are announced, the Board also will announce the effective date for implementation. The new Ethics CE program content and materials will be available after CFP Board adopts the final revised Standards.

We appreciate the contributions of the individuals participating in our Ethics Work Group, most of whom have a background in adult learning:

  • Dan Candura, CFP®, Founder, Candura Group, LLC President, PennyTree Advisors, LLC
  • Melissa Kemp, CFP®, Executive Director, FPA of Greater Phoenix
  • Phuong Luong, Founder, Just Wealth
  • Jeanna Nation, CFP®, Financial Advisor, West Financial Advisors, LLC
  • Cindy Riecke, CFP®, Senior Director, Product Development Kaplan
  • Carolynn Tomin, CFP®, Program Director, Boston University

If you missed the August 2 webinar reviewing these updates, a recording is now available online, along with a document entitled CE Sponsor Requirements for Self-Study Ethics CE for CE Sponsors considering offering a self-study (online) Ethics CE program in 2018.

Plan to join us for a status update webinar tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 2:00-2:45 p.m. (Eastern). Please save the date and keep an eye out for a future email with webinar registration details.

Council on Education Update

CFP Board’s Council on Education met on June 15, 2017, and adopted an updated CE requirement for individuals seeking reinstatement of CFP® certification.

The updated requirement, proposed by the Council’s CE & Quality Initiatives work group, caps the required number of CE hours for individuals reinstating after relinquishment to 60 hours plus 2 hours of CFP Board Ethics CE, to be completed within two years of the reinstatement date.

Individuals whose CFP® certification is relinquished must reinstate within 5 years of the relinquishment date, or be subject to the additional requirement of taking and passing the current CFP® exam as a condition of reinstatement. Under the previous requirement, the number of CE hours required for reinstatement included any outstanding and accrued CE.

The Council’s CE & Quality Initiatives work group continues to make progress on its aggressive agenda, including finalizing a comprehensive document that will provide learning objectives, at different levels of complexity, for each of the 72 Principal Knowledge Topics. Once this project is complete, we will begin developing a strategy for identifying and filling CE Content gaps related to the Principal Knowledge Topics.

The next Council on Education meeting is scheduled for October 13, 2017.

As always, we welcome your feedback and questions. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us at cesponsor@cfpboard.org.
