It has been a rewarding year, from the launch of the Center for Financial Planning to our announcement regarding some new and exciting academic initiatives at CFP Board. The new process of program self-assessment has helped faculty and administrators find different ways to engage and educate our future CFP® professionals. As we move forward, I urge you and each of your colleagues at your institution to stay in-touch in the coming weeks and months ahead. On November 18, 2015, in New York City, CFP Board held an event marking the launch of CFP Board's Center for Financial Planning, a groundbreaking new effort to address the challenges currently confronting the financial planning profession. 2017 CFP Board Registered Program Conference
The next CFP Board Registered Program Conference will take place in February 2017 in Washington, DC. Details regarding the next conference will be coming soon.
Academic Research Colloquium for Financial Planning and Related Disciplines
As part of the CFP Board Center for Financial Planning, the 2017 Academic Research Colloquium for Financial Planning and Related Disciplines will be held in Washington, DC in February 2017. This research conference will bring researchers from around the world and financial planning and a variety of related disciplines such as behavioral finance, sociology, psychology, and many more and will be held adjacent to the CFP Board Registered Program Conference so that attendees can participate in both events during the same week with the same travel schedule. The Call for Papers will be disseminated in early 2016.
2016 Updates to CFP® Exam
The next CFP® exam testing window is March 15 - March 19, 2016, and registration is now open. With the March 2016 CFP® exam, CFP Board will begin testing the updated Principal Topics List resulting from the findings of CFP Board's 2015 Job Task Analysis, and a new pricing structure has been introduced that will better assist registrants schedule their exam appointment at their preferred testing location.
If your students register early, they can save up to $200 and have more time to adequately prepare for the exam. Here are the important deadlines for the March 2016 CFP® exam:
- January 19, 2016: Early Bird Registration Deadline (Registration fee: $595)
- February 16, 2016: Regular Registration Deadline (Registration fee: $695)
- March 1, 2016: Extended Registration Deadline (Registration fee: $795)

Important Change in Exam Results Delivery for the March 2016 CFP® Exam
For the March 2016 CFP® exam only, preliminary exam result reports will not be provided to examinees at the testing site. The official result letter will be distributed to examinees approximately three weeks after the close of the March 2016 testing window.
CFP Board is conducting a passing standard study with the March 2016 CFP® exam. In alignment with certification best practices, a passing standard study is conducted whenever a new exam blueprint is introduced, to establish a cut score for passing the exam. The study will allow CFP Board to review the impact of the new passing standard based on the exam results prior to releasing final results.
Education Verification Deadline
Reminder: The Education Verification Deadline for the March 2016 CFP® exam is February 16, 2016
A list of those who have completed your CFP Board Registered Program(s) must be submitted using the CFP Board Education Verification System. Uploads to the Education Verification System can be made at www.CFP.net/EdVerification. CFP Board is encouraging all of its programs to submit names as early as possible so individuals are aware of their status and can move forward with the exam registration process in March.
It is important that the upload process is completed in a timely fashion as data uploaded through the Education Verification System appear on the next month's CCI reports.
