COVID-19 Updates from CFP Board
CFP Board is closely monitoring developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about the steps we are taking to respond.
Last Updated: January 21, 2022
The health and safety of CFP Board’s staff, stakeholders, candidates and partners continues to be our top priority as we continue to monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our operations and stakeholders, and all related updates will be posted on this page for easy reference.
CFP BOARD OFFICE OPERATING REMOTELY
CFP Board's office is currently operating on a virtual basis.
Staff will continue to be available to you on a remote basis from their respective homes. Due to our remote status, processing times may take longer than usual for paper forms and checks sent to CFP Board's office by mail. We strongly encourage the use of online forms and payment methods, especially for time-sensitive submissions such as renewal of certification.
CFP® Exam Updates
Annually, over 8,000 people take the step of preparing and sitting for the CFP® exam. And we understand the dedication and sacrifice it takes to prepare. In some instances, people have been working toward this milestone for several years. We work closely with our partner, Prometric, on exam administration throughout the country. Below are updates on our current plans for the upcoming CFP® exam administrations.
Remote Proctoring option
Our candidates’ health and safety remain paramount to CFP Board.
Our testing administrator, Prometric, has continued to update us on their work to provide safe testing centers. They have social distancing and sanitation protocols in place at all testing centers.
However, we understand that some exam candidates have health conditions and other situations that may prohibit them from safely visiting a testing center. Therefore, CFP Board will offer any candidate the option to take the CFP® exam either in person at a traditional brick-and-mortar Prometric test center or through a remote proctoring option for its March 2022 exam testing window. This option will allow the eligible candidates to take the exam at a location of their choosing, observed by a remote proctor who will ensure the security and integrity of the exam.
The remote proctoring option will be available only to candidates who can meet the specific technology requirements.
To learn more about the remote proctoring option, please read our Frequently Asked Questions.
Please know that CFP Board will only move forward with planned exam administrations if we believe they can be conducted without compromising the health of exam candidates.
CFP® Exam Cycles
For 2022, CFP Board will follow our normal schedule of three exam administrations held in March, July and November.
Updates from Prometric
For March 2022 exam candidates: Prometric has NOT rolled back the requirements for test center staff and candidates to wear masks while in Prometric test centers. Prometric is still following CDC guidance — requiring 100% mask compliance for staff AND candidates. Candidates are required to wear a mask the entire time they are in the testing centers (unless approved by TA and for image capture/ ID verification). More details are available at: prometric.com/corona-virus-update.
If you have any ongoing questions related to Prometric and the COVID-19 situation, please visit prometric.com/corona-virus-update for the latest information. If you are unable to reach Prometric for any reason please send your questions to examinations@cfpboard.org.
Online Education Opportunities
For CFP® professionals needing to complete continuing education (CE) for renewal of CFP® certification, there are many options available through online formats. Find CE programs registered with CFP Board through our search tool at www.CFP.net/FindCE.
For students actively pursuing the education requirement for initial certification, please be aware that CFP® certification programs have been actively moving to online learning options and working with us so you can continue your studies as planned.
Given these uncertain economic conditions, financial planning is more important than ever. With that in mind, we encourage you to continue your journey towards CFP® certification and actively stay in contact with your education provider to understand any impacts from COVID-19.
