High School Programs

What is CFP Board's high school program?
CFP Board has assembled a variety of resources for high school teachers to use when introducing students to financial planning concepts and career opportunities in the financial planning field. The easy-to-use materials can serve as stand-alone lessons or supplement existing curricula. CFP Board also can connect teachers with volunteer CFP® professionals who will visit the classroom to speak to students or assist with teaching a class. In addition, CFP Board has developed working relationships with other organizations that have a youth focus, including the National Academy Foundation and Junior Achievement.

How can my high school benefit from teaming up with CFP Board?
Learning how to manage money wisely is a critical skill for all young people to acquire, and financial planning as an occupation is an exciting, rewarding career for students to consider. CFP Board recognizes, however, that high school teachers have many demands on their time, may have limited access to resources about financial planning and may be hesitant to teach the subject if they do not have a finance or economics background. By providing teachers with volunteer speakers and easy-to-use materials, CFP Board supports the efforts of high school teachers to bring lessons in personal finance into the classroom and to expose students to a growing career opportunity.

Where can I learn more?
Call 800-487-1497, e-mail mail@cfpboard.org or visit our Teachers' Resources section to explore the educational materials that we have assembled and to take advantage of an on-campus presentation by a volunteer CFP® profesional.

Resources for High School Financial Education

Founded in 1919, Junior Achievement (JA) is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and free enterprise. JA programs are taught by volunteers in class and after school at locations throughout the United States and in 98 countries. Programs span grades K-12 and focus on seven key content areas: business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy and career development. CFP Board provides volunteer CFP® certificants to local JA chapters to participate in education programs that focus on personal finance. To learn how your high school can get involved in Junior Achievement, go to www.ja.org.

The National Academy Foundation (NAF) is a nonprofit organization that supports a national network of high school career academies - small learning communities - in finance, travel & tourism and information technology to prepare young people for future careers through a combination of school-based curricula and work-based experiences.

Since 1984, NEFE has been addressing youth financial literacy with the nationally known NEFE High School Financial Planning Program® (HSFPP). The HSFPP consists of a student manual, instructor’s manual with lesson plans and visual aids, and a dynamic suite of web pages that offer a large, continually growing collection of resources, articles, and financial tools for teachers, students, and parents.
