Financial Services Firms

Why does CFP Board work with financial services firms?
Over the past few years, interest in financial planning has increased in all segments of the financial services industry - brokerage, insurance, banking and accounting. A growing number of these firms are supporting and encouraging their employees and associates to obtain CFP® certification. In fact, CFP Board estimates that approximately 30 percent of current certificants are associated with about 30 of the largest employers in the financial services industry. By developing working relationships with these firms, CFP Board can help support internal efforts to increase the number of CFP® certificants and to make sure that firms have an accurate understanding of the requirements for CFP® certification. CFP Board currently has contacts with approximately 100 firms and will continue to identify other interested firms and contacts.

How can my company benefit from working with CFP Board?
Through CFP Board's external relations department, financial services firms have access to a variety of materials and resources, including:
  • Collateral materials to support internal efforts to encourage certification.
  • Updates about CFP Board policies and procedures that may impact CFP® certificants or candidates for CFP Board's certification at the firm.
  • Firm Reports, which show those CFP® certificants who have reported an affiliation with a firm, allowing the firm to recognize newly certified individuals or to identify those who are close to their renewal date.
  • Notices of public disciplinary actions by CFP Board involving any CFP® certificant associated with a firm.
  • The opportunity to join CFP Board and other firms at an annual meeting to discuss CFP® certification and financial planning in the context of a corporate environment.
  • Personal visits and a contact within CFP Board to answer questions.
