2011 Conference

Preparing Future Financial Planners:

CFP Board's annual conference brought together representatives from institutions around the country that provided professional financial planning education and assisted individuals in pursuing CFP® certification. It provided an opportunity to connect with CFP Board and faculty and program directors from financial planning education programs around the country, to share best practices for financial planning education, and to learn about CFP Board's commitment to education partnerships.

The conference featured sessions by and for Program Directors and faculty. This year's conference included a special focus on innovative methods of teaching within our Registered Programs.

Featured Address

The featured address at this year's CFP Board Registered Program Conference was a panel discussion focused on the conference theme: Preparing Future Financial Planners: Innovations in Curriculum and Instruction. The panelists focused on two critical areas relative to curriculum and instruction in CFP Board-Registered Programs:

  1. Student-centered learning objectives that outline student achievement relative to CFP Board's required topic areas.
  2. Avenues for facilitating higher order cognitive thinking relative to Bloom's Taxonomy in each of the major content areas.

The resources presented in this session are applicable to both degree and non-degree programs and relevant to all instructional delivery formats. The panelists for this address represented a wide variety of program types and delivery methods and have expertise in each of the major content areas of the CFP Board curriculum.

Graduate Research

The 2011 CFP Board Registered Program Conference featured a research poster session for graduate students (both master’s and doctoral) to share their unpublished research and studies exploring one or more areas related to the personal financial planning profession. The research poster session was held during the Welcome Reception at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, with the participating students available to discuss their research and studies.
