Thank you for your interest in participating at CFP Board’s Financial Planning Clinic in Washington, DC. Registration for CFP® certificants to volunteer at the Clinic is now closed. CFP Board has reached the maximum number of volunteers and wants to thank all the CFP® professionals who have generously donated their time and expertise to make this event a success.

The event follows successful Financial Planning Clinics held in Los Angeles (2006) and in Boston (2007) where over 200 volunteer CFP® certificants made a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people by sharing their time and expertise on a pro bono basis to help individuals and families sort out their personal finance questions and concerns.

Both events were well received by both volunteers and the public, with 95% of volunteers surveyed stating they would participate again, and the same percentage of attendees stating they would recommend attending a Financial Planning Clinic to someone else.

The Financial Planning Clinic may be the first opportunity for many Washington, D.C. area consumers to meet face-to-face with a CFP® professional, and we appreciate the first-rate group of volunteers that have volunteered to assist with this effort.

What is a Financial Planning Clinic?

CFP Board has organized the Financial Planning Clinic to further its mission of serving the public by upholding CFP® certification as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning.

At the Financial Planning Clinic, volunteer CFP® certificants will be available to speak one-on-one with members of the public about their financial questions and concerns. Volunteers will be seated at tables designated for specific financial planning topics, allowing attendees to choose a topic they are interested in with a volunteer ready to discuss that topic. Volunteers will have the opportunity to assist many attendees throughout the event, but will speak to only one individual or one individual family at a time. In addition to meeting with volunteers, attendees will also be able to attend Educational Workshops on diverse and popular financial topics presented by leading experts in personal finance who hold the CFP® certification.

Volunteers will not be permitted to hand out business cards or attempt to sell any products or services at the Financial Planning Clinic, but each volunteer's name and contact information will be included in the Financial Planning Resource Booklet that attendees will receive as they enter the Clinic.

Volunteers will receive a briefing over breakfast before the Clinic begins to provide them with an overview of the Clinic layout and rules, a schedule for the lunch break, and an opportunity to ask questions. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided for the volunteers by CFP Board.
