1. How many questions are on the practice exams?

Each practice exam includes 50 unique, authentic CFP® exam questions. There are two practice exams available.

2. Where do the practice exam questions come from?

The questions have appeared in previous CFP® exams, but are now retired for inclusion in the practice exams. Although these actual questions will not appear on any future CFP® exam, they are typical of the types of questions asked and represent the full range of topic areas covered on the current CFP® exam.

3. How do I access the practice exams once I purchase them?

The practice exams are accessible online. You will need to log into your secure CFP Board account and select the practice exam under the Certification Requirements tab.

4. How much does it cost to purchase the practice exams?

Two 50-question practice exams are available. Candidates may purchase one exam for $99 or both exams for $149.

5. Are there instructions on how to take the practice exams?

Once you access a practice exam, there are instructions available as well as a tutorial and a sample question to try before you start the actual practice exam.

6. How long will I have access to the practice exams?

You will be able to access your purchased exam for up to 90 days from the date of purchase. You can access and return to the practice exam as often as you like during the access period. Once you have completed the practice exam and requested your score, your access will be limited to a read-only mode. This will allow you to continue to review questions, answers, and rationales, but you will no longer be able to change your answers or have the practice exam re-scored.

7. Will I be able to re-take each exam more than once?

No. Although you can start and stop while you’re taking a practice exam, once you have completed the exam and submitted it for scoring, you will not be able to take the exam again. However, you will have the ability to log back into the practice exam and view the questions and answers in read-only mode for the duration of the 90-day access period after purchase.

8. If I order the same practice exam more than once, will I receive different questions each time?

No. The practice exam contains the same 50 questions each time is it purchased.

9. Will I receive feedback on the answers?

Yes. There is an option for you to select so that you may see the correct answers with explanations once you have marked your answers.

10. Can I review my answers before submitting my practice exam for scoring?

Yes. While taking the practice exam, you can go back to earlier questions that you have answered. There is also a solutions button located on the bottom right of the screen for each exam question. You will be able to see the solutions for each question as you complete the exam, if desired.

11. Will I be able to time myself taking the practice exams?

Yes. There is a clock in the upper right hand corner of the screen while you are taking the exam. The clock will stop if you pause or leave the exam for any reason. Once you start your exam again, the clock will restart at the point where you left off.

12. How much time will I have to complete the 50 questions?

The practice exam timer is set for 1 hour and 45 minutes, which is the approximate amount of time that would be allotted for 50 questions on the real exam. If the time runs out, you will still be able to continue to take the test without the clock.

13. What features are included in the practice exams?

Each practice exam features the ability to highlight passages within a question, to strike out answer choices, and to mark questions to return to for later review. You can also turn on or off the correct answers and rationales as you take the practice exam.

14. Are the practice exams only helpful for the November exam?

No. The practice exams are designed to assist candidates in their preparation for any administration of the CFP® exam based on the current Job Task Domains and Principal Topic areas. Completing the practice exams provides firsthand experience with the computer-based exam format used for the CFP® exam beginning in November 2014, and can help identify the Principal Topic area(s) one needs to review further to improve proficiency.

15. When is the best time for me to take the practice exams?

You can take the practice exams at any point leading up to an exam. However, taking the practice exams early in the preparation process can maximize the usefulness of the study tool by helping to identify which topic areas(s) you need to focus your study on. Plus, your purchase of the practice exams come with a 90-day access period so that you can revisit the questions and answers while you continue the study process.

16. Will I have the ability to print out the exam questions?

The practice exams were not designed to be printed, and the online interface does not include a print option. The purchase price includes online access to the exam for 90 days from the time of purchase.

17. Can I share the practice exams with my colleagues?

No. The practice exams are copyrighted by CFP Board and cannot be copied, shared or duplicated.
